Lens Power
At Feather Vision we follow the ATA Archery Lens Standard Marking protocol and speak about lenses generally in the diopter power they are. It’s a standard that our founder Chuck Cooley helped to write with other scope manufacturers back in the late 90’s so consumers would be able to speak about lenses in a common and well noted formulation. It’s a standard of measure just like inches or pounds or distance.
For the most part the typical nomenclature follows as such:
– +.25 – 2x, +.37 – 3x, +.50 – 4x, +.62 – 5x, +.75 – 6x, +.82 – 7x, +1.0 – 8x
In actual application though, the shooter will generally not experience the stated “X” power of the lens in their setup. The apparent magnification is actually substantially lower. You can calculate what your actual lens power is by using this chart. You’ll need to know the diopter power of the lens, and the peep to scope distance.
Lens Drilling
Drilling lenses to accept a fiber through the middle is something we pioneered and perfected back in 1998 for Clyde Hartsell at Bulls Eye Archery. We’ve sold tens of thousands over the years and have perfected a way to get it done cleanly and effectively.
Lens Drilling in Composite
In our composite materials (non-glass) we can drill holes .010”, .015”, .020”, .030”, .040”, .060” or the Beiter Custom Pin System.
Lens Drilling in Glass
In our glass materials, we can drill holes .015”, .020,” .030”, and .040”. Please note: A .010″ hole is not an option for our glass lenses and a drilled glass lens must include a DSA option.
DSA
The DSA is a small etched dot in the center of the lens used for aiming with a hole drilled through it for a fiber optic pin to be slid through. The idea is 2 contrasting colors so the fiber or the dot is always visible no matter the lighting conditions or target color. It’s incredibly versatile and successful.
DSA for Composite Materials
We offer the DSA for composite lenses as an option (not mandatory). DSA options are .040”, .050”, .060”, .070”, .080”, .090”, .100”, .115,” .120” or any custom size requested.
DSA for Glass
A drilled glass lens must include a DSA option (mandatory) of .040”, .050”, .060”, .070”, .080”, .090”, .100”, .115,” .120” or any custom size requested.
DSA Dot and Custom Reticle Colors:
All the DSA Dots and the custom reticle engravings are permanent etchings into the surface of the material. You can request them to be left as a frosted non-painted color or choose from: Black, Red, Pink, Yellow, White, Green, or Blue.
SCOPE BRAND and/or SIZE:
We have been supplying lenses to the competitive archery market for more than 2 decades, the oldest scope lens company in existence. Because of our history we have virtually every single scope produced for the market and hand test fit every single lens before it heads out the door. Knowing what you have ensures we are able to get the best possible fit for your new lens. Be sure to specify when possible. If you don’t know the brand or need a custom size, no problem. We hold exceedingly tight tolerances on lens cutting. All we need is a caliper measurement (in thousandths – 123.456” ) and we can custom cut it for you, no additional charge.
